Survivors will need to work together, set traps, and remain quick on their toes if they don't want to meet their certain death.

Reviews about the game

Hide Or Die01.05.2020

The game where people ask, "Isnt that just Dead by Daylight?" Hide or Die, HoD: an asymmetrical horror game that has been totally overhauled and fine tuned for months by VecFour Digital. Following the initial early access release in August of 2019, Hide or Die slowly began to show flaws in its core gameplay design with the lack of a reliable playerbase and gameplay that just fell flat of engaging, the game shortly tripped down on the Steam charts. While the devs had an intriguing idea for something new to switch up the seemingly lack luster horror genre recently, the vision ultimately fell short of acceptable execution. This is where the Overhaul update comes into play. Right after the game seemingly failed and was destined to fall into the depths of Steam to never be seen again, the devs went right back to the drawing bored to completely revamp the formula that was Hide or Die. They spent months completely redoing and tuning mechanics and graphics to get the product we have today, half a year later. In this entirely new experience, the game now features a 3v1 gamemode that offers thrilling, fast paced gameplay centered around activating... generators to escape the bloodthirsty killer? Really...? You may be asking, "How is this any different from DbD?" Hide or Die offers a complete mix up to DbD through the character customization that allows you to completely have control over how you want to play the game. HoD also offers a more thrilling approach to Hunter/Survivor interactions through interactable hiding spots and a phone system to message fellow teammates. There is no heavy looping mechanics found here and the game is much more grounded in evasive manners that involve hiding and predicting the terrifying hunter's actions. These mechanics really bridge the gap between competitive multiplayer horror games and singleplayer thriller experiences by allowing you to really feel helpless and scared of the threat aiming to kill you and 2 other friends. The game also offers a completely free battle pass (you heard that right!) that allows you to unlock the newest killers, calling cards, xp bonuses, clothing, and unique 3d sprays just by playing the game. I will not go completely in depth with the gameplay here as there is a page, and in game tutorial that explains the full extent of the gameplay and its mechanics, but I can fully recommend giving Hide or Die a shot if you're looking for a balanced, thrilling multiplayer horror experience that will keep you coming back for more. TL;DR - Hide or Die is a new take on the multiplayer horror genre that has been completely refined and tuned to ensure a heart-racing time with whomever you decide to play with.

Honestly, its meh. First day of relaunch i was excited to play but the games boring in my opinion. Not much enjoyment in being chased where youre almost guaranteed to lose unless you lead the hunter to another survivor. Items seem scarce, i played an entire game with 25% health since i couldnt find a med kit to save my life. Honestly kind of dissapointing.

Hide Or Die09.05.2020

Before I get into this review I feel I should mention that I have over 3k hours in Dead by Daylight and that I owned Hide or Die before the latest full release patch. I'm going to start off by saying this game is a breath of fresh air after playing so much dead by daylight in the past 2 years. There have been plenty of asymmetrical horror games that have come and gone but none of those were quite able to capture the formula that DBD has mastered. Until this new revision of Hide or Die came out.
Survivor Side

Is it scary?
If you're a DBD gamer and you feel that DBD lost its scare factor after so many hours of playing, the same will happen with this game inevitably. Keep your expectations reasonable. BUT I will say this game still gets the adrenaline pumping and induces much more panic when you're trying to escape. When I'm doing the objectives and the killer is approaching, I find myself struggling to click the right keys and run in panic and lemme tell you it feels great.
Objectives
The objectives (and overall gameplay in general) is similar to deathgarden except more interactive. Instead of hitting skillchecks or just sitting in a certain radius, you have to activate extractors by typing in the numbers shown in red with your number keys. You have to complete 3 of these panels (sometimes more if certain perks are used). Sometimes this gives enough time for a killer to see you're in that area, which brings some pretty intense moments. Will you be able to complete the panels? I find myself typing in panic and messing up a ton.
Looping
I'd say this game has looping similar to Deathgarden than DBD. There are a few questionable points on maps you can run the killer at but thats probably the closest to looping you can get and may not last very long with smarter killers(it sure has wasted alot of my time as killer though). Parkour and hiding are what you'll be doing for the majority of your playtime from what i've learned. This involves learning something entirely different from dropping pallets and vaulting windows over and over. There's no real "standing up" to the killer aside from using items at the moment. So parkour provides a pretty decent skill gap. Knowing all the good hiding spots and learning to hide efficiently are good as well.
Can I solo?
I am mostly a solo player and even though you will have those teammates that don't do the objective... I think its still fun being solo. I don't think the punishment is that harsh as it still gives you a decent amount of points for doing your part.
Tunneling?
ITS MUCH HARDER TO GET TUNNELED ON PURPOSE. When you are saved from a coffin, you and the rescuer are made invisible for a short duration so you can escape.
What if I do get tunneled?
YOU NEVER REALLY DIE. You are given a health bar and when you get "killed" you spawn in a coffin and have your health reduced. Your first two lives you will require 2 hits to down. After that you are one hit every time and can die as many times as possible. The game only ends when you run out of time OR all survivors are dead. If you are getting tunneled there's a much higher chance for your team to escape.
Killer Side
My experience as killer has been nothing short of difficult yet rewarding. Survivors can be VERY cheeky, especially grouped players. You WILL get those games where every time you find someone you get flashed, stunned, ran at a strong structure, door locked in your face, etc. BUT there are very strong perks to help you manage some of these things a bit better. Tracking survivors is much trickier as you're not given precise info aside from the general area a survivor is. Time management and objective pressure is just as crucial in this game as in its competitor. There are also INSANE perk synergies from what i've seen. The more you play and improve the better it will feel.
TL;DR
I think this game will keep you on high alert much more than DBD. There is a sense of helplessness when avoiding the killer that you don't get in DBD. If you're an avid DBD player like me who feels they have nearly perfected the looping in DBD... This game will give you something to learn. You WILL NOT do well in your first game. You might not even do well in your second. This game can be very punishing on both sides. You HAVE to give it time and be willing to learn. It won't kill DBD. But its definitely a good game that can coexist alongside it.

Was sitting in the Queue for almost a full hour, didn't find a match I'm starting to get the impression that no one plays this game. (I was queueing for BOTH Survivor and Killer, still didn't find anything) EDIT: refunded it... don't get it unless it's free

Game has potential as the next Dead by Daylight but due to serious bugs/entitlement the game is currently dead since launch. Killers are extremely OP and will ruin your day with tracking abilities such as a radar gun that blips with movement, "True sight" which sees through walls for 2 seconds, and a green aura that highlights any players through walls that are touched by it. For a game called Hide or Die it refuses to let players hide in its beautiful and creepy environment. Before buying check out the player base for any increases because 2 weeks after launch there is 30-50 players total depending on the time of day. This make is so the player base flocks to a singular game mode which becomes boring after awhile.
