Reviews about the game

Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice03.12.2023

this game really is a mixed bag Atmosphere, visuals and voice acting are absolutely amazing, I dont think a game ever made me feel this uncomfortable (which is absolutely intended). Unfortunately the gameplay and puzzles cant really keep pace and get boring up to borderline frustrating rather quickly. Still a very unique experience, definitely worth a try, maybe not at full price thou. 6/10 lorestones

In general, Hellblade is divided into two parts: fighting and solving puzzles. After some time, the repetition of the combat gameplay may bother you a little. But beauty and interesting (and also difficult) puzzles can solve this defect to some extent. It is interesting that this game has no HUD and map, so it offers a completely comfortable and simple gameplay to its players. With all these points, this game can attract the players well. The story of the game is unique and has given special importance to this type of mental illness and the people who suffer from it. And finally, I highly recommend playing Hellblade Senua's Sacrifice. "The hardest battles are fought in the mind, not with the sword."

I've been standoffish about playing this game for a while now, even purchasing it on a -85% discount for $5 was a stretch for me, but man was I wrong. This is the most compelling game told about psychosis I've ever experienced. The depiction of mental illness had me guessing the whole time. The ambiance, the way they used the voices. I kept thinking about if this was all actually real or if everything was just in her head. And it'll keep you guessing past the ending of the game. Senua is the most human heroine I've seen in any game ever, and while there have been more 'strong' female characters, there's no heroism like the heroism of the truly broken and crippled. She has to fight her demons, and it's all the more meaningful because unlike fem-Shepard who eats Reapers for breakfast, or forced feminine empowerment characters, you can see in the gorgeously motion captured performance of Senua's face, that she is truly terrified as she fights, but you can't be truly courageous without fear. This game is short. About 7 hours short. This game probably has awful replay value. All the same, this game is a must play if you're a fan of good storytelling.

Voices whispering negative things to my ears, telling me I will fail and give up whilst laughing at me, and my body decides this is not psychological horror but ASMR. 5/5 soothingness for the body and soul.

"My gods abandoned me. I am alone." Such a beautiful experience it was, but Senua's journey can be too overwhelming to bear. I felt Senua's fear through me, breathed and wept with her, and carried her burden within myself. The voices were in my head, everything made me paranoid and I was full of anxiety every second I played it. Even though at some moments I found it overwhelming to continue I wanted to complete Senua's quest and I'm glad I did. The opening credits were too powerful and I was scared of the unknown lying ahead of me since I had no idea what the game was about. I'm sure I still would be as afraid as I was even if I knew what I was going to deal with. I believe it's one of the games that can deeply affect you if you're not ready for it. As the game is all about the atmosphere one shouldn't expect too much of an action. The combats are pretty basic, you deal with the same type of enemies and there isn't much to do other than evading or dodging enemies and then attacking constantly. Character design, puzzles, and music were fascinating and the sound design and visuals felt very real. Despite all of its beauty, the game has lots of bugs, glitches, etc. I didn't countered anything game-breaking but it's better to be aware of that. Human characters other than Senua felt like they didn't belong to the game, it just felt like developers recorded simple videos and transferred them to the game, making it look weird when next to Senua. Even though I found the ending satisfying the song choice was disappointing and ruined the atmosphere for me. I believe the second game will not have any of these problems and serve as an even stronger experience.
