Description

Greenwood The Last Ritual is an adventure game with isometric viewpoint where you will play as an envoy of Vatican. Use magic of pentagrams to break the Curse on the Valley. At the same time you will have to try to resist that Curse yourself and make it out alive.

The game takes place in alternate medieval Europe. It has been more than five hundred years since the end of the Age of Darkness and creation of the Barrier. The horrors of the war with demons are long forgotten, the order of Paladins has become a great legend and the Inquisition, that has cleared Europe from evil, is now the head the Church.

Greenwood Valley is one of those numerous distant counties living far away from rowdy central highlands. However, the sudden illness of a young Countess disturbs the peace of the mountain valley. During her treatment it turns out that she is possessed by an unknown demon. The Inquisitor of the Valley attempts to help the Countess and performs an exorcism ritual that resulted in failure. Now Greenwood is cursed with death and madness.

You play as an envoy of Vatican that is trying to break the curse. Explore the county, communicate with the spirit world, exorcise evil and discover the secrets of the Valley. Don’t forget about your own survival and state of mind. The magic of pentagrams and light are your only protection against the Curse

Key features:

- A mystical adventure into the valley’s open world;

- Explore the world, collect items, solve puzzles;

- Learn and use the magic of pentagrams;

- Communicate with spirits;

- Exorcise the Evil;

- Survive from the ancient curse;

- Use light to protect yourself from the Curse;

- Find a way to complete the exorcism.

Reviews about the game

Greenwood the Last Ritual24.01.2017

I just finished the game and here is some feedback on it. I really liked the magic circle aspect of the game, having to construct the right circles at the right time. That's the whole reason I bought it to be honest. The story was okay but it's hurt by some translation issues. I also felt like there was a lot more backstory that I was missing out on. Maybe that's something the developers can flesh out in another game. I didn't like a few things. These weren't deal breakers because I finished the game, but there are some thing I think could make it better. A map would make things a ton easier. I found the isometric view combined with no map is a little annoying. Honestly, I think a minimap or something would solve all of the issues I had with navigation and finding locations that I'd already been to. There were also a couple of combination puzzles that were more trial and error than anything else. Not necessarily bad because there are only a couple of them but they were still a little annoying. The graphics were good but I found the optimization to be poor in certain parts. My machine isn't beast but I was getting 30-40fps most of the time but in a couple of areas it slowed down to <10fps. Given this is not an action title it didn't really affect the gameplay in the sense of getting me killed but it was a little annoying. This game doesn't hold your hand and I respect that, but I think a little bit more explanation on some things would be nice. I only really had one moment of "What am I supposed to do now?" The final puzzle/fight was interesting and the ending was a nice twist. Overall I enjoyed the game more than I thought I would. It took me less than six hours to beat the game but I think it was worth the price of admission if you're interested in the magic circle thing. It definitely has potential to be expanded upon for another game.

Starting as an investigation plot with mystic elements and magic the game takes an unpleasant
supposedly devotional
turn. The player ends with
unknowingly helping a destructive god in his cruel apocalypse. As is insinuated in found scrolls and conversations, mankind has committed a severe sin in trying to avoid being slaughered instead of just letting it happen. This is, what the player is meant put "right"
. The meager story is quite linear, I did not find any way to change this pitiable course of action. Riddles are quite simplistic: Type one makes you talk a lot
with ghosts of deceased
until combinations are revealed, the second makes you collect items
and souls
in the right order to avoid obstacles blocking your way. Finally pattern have to be selected and combined from choices growing while you proceed through the game. Once I knew them all, it got quite boring for me. I only finished it because I wanted to know if my plot estimate was right. Compared to the poor plot, graphics is surprisingly nice though not up to date. My opinion: boring, not worth playing. Oh- and if you want to try it nevertheless: it has the LC_ALL=C bug, if you're playing with a locale that differs from en_US. You won't be able to load your last (automatic) checkpoint, if you don't set LC_ALL=C %command% as launch options in properties.

https://youtu.be/jrq4y6puNkg The idea is actually pretty good, and quite novel. Sadly the implementation leaves a lot to be desired. The game is actually very linear despite what the store page mentions about open world. First big problem is the controls. You use the mouse to move, and double click to run. This is quite out dated, and the Devs really should have implemented a more traditional twin stick control system. Also thanks to the isometric view and the low res visuals it can be quite the chore when you need to locate switches and the like. Even when you can clearly see them they can be hard to click. And finally there is the magic system where you need to drag and drop 'runic symbols' to achieve your goals. This is an interesting idea, but if you get caught by a roving spirit and you are near a symbol area, you cannot actually drag them to the enemy that is killing you...as they will try to auto drag the the symbol area. Very frustrating. And talking of enemies there is a random enemy that is like a cloud of static that will jump you, and I have no idea how you beat it. Some times spam clicking the mouse works, other times it doesn't leaving you to die and reload from the last checkpoint. For a more intuitive control screen and a bit more polish overall this could have been an interesting experience, but overall I found it far too frustrating even with the low price.

First off: Works great on linux. I really really love the art style and graphics. The pentagram stuff is actually kinda cool, a very different way of interaction/combat etc to anything i've ever done. I can't recommend this game for the following reasons: - Odd controls - 4 spirits randomly attack me and it doesn't appear to have anything to do with location or time - i can't see any reason why (maybe something just isn't rendering that i should be able to just walk around) - and i have no ability to combat it (pentagram drawing tools do not appear, it just die, really slowly, unable to do anything!!!) There are concepts in this game that would be awesome if explored more, in another game. I don't see myself returning to this though as the 4 spirits, who kill me very slowly with no way to combat, frustrates me and wastes my time.

pros + dark and creepy atmosphere + intriguing horror story + easy, enjoyable puzzles and quests + big map with many different regions for exploration + game is not short + game is cheap + graphics looks nice cons - pixel hunting - bad and clunky Diablo type mouse controls - repetetive and frequent paranormal attacks and quicktime-events halts gameplay. it's getting tedious after a while. - very long loading time when starting the game - can't manually save - only auto save - frustrating final puzzle. Overall this is an decent horror/exploration adventure game. i like it.
