Control Craft 202.07.2016

DO NOT BUY THIS GAME. This is a terrible port from a mobile app. There is actual game play mechanics that do not work, and render the game impossible to complete. There are free games that give more satisfaction than this pile of shit.

This game seems unfinished, there are at least 3 super powers you can't use and i'm pretty sure that these 3 were meant to help you in one stage in particular that i'm pretty sure is impossible as there is no conceivable way to beat it.

Asked for my first Steam refund. Mobile port and doesn't seem like it's much fun for anything not on the go.
Control Craft 2 is a casual strategy game of capturing auto-building control points.
Control Craft 2 is a sequel to Control Craft, available on various websites (Armor Games, Kongregate) where it runs on Flash. The sequels are also available on those platforms, for free. While it was not familiar to me, I went and tried the first game. It seems that there is little new in this sequel. For those familiar with that, new stuff includes: - More complex level selection, with branching mission tree - Upgrades for troops - Special abilities to aid in the fight The troops are the same though. There's a boss fight or two, i.e. just a big troop that you have to throw wave after wave of men before it dies. Also, I did not play CC1 very far... maybe upgrades and special abilities are there too. If so, I'd like if someone confirms or declines that in the comments.
Simple, casual gameplay
Each level consists of buildings, connected to each other by bridges and stairs. Buildings automatically produce troops of various kinds, and when they fight against other troops, each troop typically kills one enemy troop (so the bigger army wins). As special troops there are stronger super soldiers that kill double number of troops, and flying troops that ignore ground troops and go straight for the buildings. Special abilities include bombs that destroy troops within buildings, lightning that kills enemies directly, a freeze to cease troop production and a simple production speed-up. Victory comes by eliminating other AI controlled players (there is no multiplayer). AI doesn't have special abilities, so those are a tad OP in most levels.
Technical oddities
The game runs fine and I experienced no obvious bugs. I played with mouse but it supposedly has controller support. I consider strategy games strictly mouse games so I skipped that. Music is nice and fitting. Sounds are rare, with just some repetitive voice lines from the troops. There's a zoom button that shows the whole map. I feel this should have been the default setting as it immediately made the game more enjoyable to play, but that's just me. One of the special abilities, the freeze, works wonkily and does not seem to stick to buildings consistently. What's more, half of the upgrades were not available for me for some reason. Unfortunately, the achievement design for the game is also half-assed. There are 6 achievements of various accomplishments but you can get them without finishing the game, in a little over an hour. Finally, review section mentions ads: there appear to be ads to other games of this dev in the main menu. If that would annoy you too much, skip this game. I saw no other ads though.
Mildly amusing
I played through 23 of the 24 levels (+ there appears to be 3 bonus levels), but I got stuck in the level 24, amply named Last Stand. I mean, finally a level where special abilities and all troop managing skills have to be used to their full potential! I almost made it, but in this level AI builds troops faster than the player, their regular troops are stronger (I had upgraded them fully by this point), and there's a super boss with a ton of health roaming about. That said, I finally quit in this level because for achievement purposes, I had completed the game. I paid less than 40c for this (at a sub -50% price) on the summer sale, so I think the price was fine, especially for a freely available flash game. Basically, the only things Steam version brings are achievements and trading cards. This stand-alone version works better than the Flash version, though. However, you are not missing too much by skipping it either. You might want to check the free versions first. ~Twistorian Curator~

I was really enjoying the game intially, however: - The game will continuously set you up against more and more unfair matches until you can't win without abilities, but will not unlock any of them other than the first one - There is no way to reassign points if you've allocated them wrong - HUGE performace hits for no reason make the game unplayable until it's closed and re-opened - no way to reset progress either THis makes the game initially fun, but then it turns into a nightmare Oh, and it has banner adds
