Reviews about the game

This is a "My first demo project in the Game Maker Studio", not a real game. It consists of 4 empty levels, 4 or 5 enemy types , and one boss... You can run through whole game in less than 15 minutes. Instant refund. Do not buy this.

People have been saying the $3.99 price tag is right for how long it is. However, the value of a game isn't just about quantity versus price. It's also about quality, and where this game falls short. The game does remind me of old platformers you would find in the Commander Keen days, but that isn't exactly a good thing. The graphics are even less impressive than some of those older titles, and the platforming doesn't hold up as well either. For one, and which is always a sticking point for me, is when you can't jump off a climbable object like a vine or ladder, but have to fall of the side of it, meaning you need to climb as high as possible and then hold the direction you need fall towards. This game has that in spades. Once you unlock the magic you've pretty much seen all the game has to offer - it's just a matter of what magic suits you more, or if you prefer strength and ranged attacks versus stealth. This is because you cannot level up enough to unlock every skill at it's highest tier. I killed every enemy I came across, even backtracking a bit when possible to kill others on secondary paths, and I only upgraded my magic spells 3 or 4 times out of 9 tiers between the three, and 6 out of 9 for the primary stats of Strength, Ranged, and Stealth. The truth is that even at an hour long, most will not finish it because they won't enjoy it enough to do so. Not mention, there's plenty of free platforming games like this that are both longer and better.

Nice little game, as for early 2010's indies. Reminds me of Seiklus (but linear) and that second level in Lion King with riding ostriches. Excellent sound design and atmospheric music.

In this game I never felt like the enemys posed a threat, you can basicly just brute force tour way through by maxing out strenth the only difficult part of the game is the plat forming only because the chekpoints were so few and far between that you would have to redo a significantly. Also even thow the game says its controler compatable but its encredibly finiky and you can't edit controls fot the controler.

This game doesn't have nearly enough levels. It was over before I even figured out how to use all the features. I only discovered there was more than one magic skill after I was done by looking at the pictures and reviews here. And you only get to ride one single chicken. :-( --- After accidentally beating the game with just the spear, level 1 crow shot, and level 1 strength, I decided to play again and figure out the skills system. That's the closest thing to making the game long enough to be satisfying. Anyway, it's way easier to defeat the boss with some magic blasts than just using the spear. And if you really want to gain all the skills, it's possible to grind next to a checkpoint, then kill yourself and repeat, because the enemies respawn when the checkpoint restores you.

This is one of those games where I wish Steam had a "neutral" rating next to recommend and not recommend, because this game is decent enough to not deserve a negative rating, but it doesn't have enough going for it to deserve a positive one, either. Aborigenus is a simple platformer with very light RPG elements. You play as a tribal warrior who has to hunt down an evil shaman who abducted his girlfriend. There's jumping, melee and ranged attacks, and you get XP for killing enemies which you can invest into dealing more damage with either your melee or your ranged attacks. Overall, it's a solid platformer and was worth the price I picked it up for during a sale. Movement is okay, only dropping from vines is a little awkward. Combat also works fairly well, but it's nothing special. The controls feel decent, but not great - there are other platformers that do it far better. It's also a pretty easy game overall, especially the boss fight was a pushover. It's a linear game and not very long. I finished the entire game in half an hour, so keep that in mind if you're unsure whether to purchase this or not. Other than the controls being functional and the gameplay being decent, there's really not much more to say about this due to how short it is. There isn't even any secret hunting, all achievements are unlocked as you progress in the story. Worth picking up on a sale when you want something to waste half an hour on, but if you expect anything more than that, you'll be disappointed.
